RADON TESTING METRO ATLANTA AREA HOME INSPECTOR WITH 20+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

WHAT IS RADON?

Radon, a radioactive gas that has been found in homes all over the United States, is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. The EPA recommends that all home buyers and sellers have their homes tested for Radon. Nearly one out of every 15 homes in the United States is estimated to have an elevated radon level.

WHY DO I NEED A RADON TEST COMPLETED?

If your home is located in Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, or Gwinnett County, you are in Zone 1, and it has been determined by the EPA that homes in these areas are known to have elevated levels of Radon of 4 or greater picocuries per liter. All other metro Atlanta counties are at a moderate level between 2-4 picocuries.

A radon detection device is placed in an unobtrusive location on the lowest floor of the home. The technician will retrieve the device 48 hours later and export the results. After retrieving the results, the inspector will send you a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report. Should you have any questions about your radon inspection results, please do not hesitate to reach out to your inspector.

WHAT IF I HAVE HIGH LEVELS OF RADON?

Your technician will provide you with information on mitigation companies that you can interview and select the best system for your situation. A Radon Mitigation Company can install a variety of mitigation systems that can reduce the Radon to safer levels. Understand, all homes have some level of Radon. But not all homes have dangerous levels. A Radon specialist will design a system just for your situation. Systems are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.
